Sylvia’s solo vocal project. The debut EP MESSENGERS sets her voice inside cinematic, surreal soundscapes.

Founded in 2019 by Guillermo Rozenthuler, Sylvia Schmidt, Kate Smith and Jaka Škapin, Anthropos explores the roots of singing before and beyond language. The ensemble treats music as a shared process rather than a product, “singing with” rather than “performing for”, and creates instant collaborative compositions that express humanity through voice and sound.

The first recording of Sylvia’s jazz quartet with Christian Prior on piano, Nick Ereaut on bass and Gaspar Sena on drums. The self-composed track was recorded live at Lightship 95 in London in April 2022. The band premiered two sets of original music in London and in Hannover in November 2022.

Sylvia met guitarist James Kitchman in 2014, on stage at one of London’s late-night jam sessions. First drawn together by the richness of the jazz tradition, they have since explored wider sources, including the Anglo-American folk ballads of the Appalachian mountains. Their sound embraces the tension between preservation and transformation, where the haunting beauty of nostalgia meets the pull of change.

A twelve-track, fully improvised collaborative vocal album produced by Jaka Škapin and released on Bandcamp in July 2021. It was recorded live at Soup Studios in London in a single three-hour session, bringing together some of the UK’s most experienced vocal improvisers: Briony Greenhill, Guillermo Rozenthuler, Marcia Willis, Kate Smith and Sylvia Schmidt. There was no rehearsal, plan or musical director, only an open space.

“The Elusive” unites a collective of musicians around the idea of cross-pollination. Its eclectic compositions are rooted in jazz but range across styles, geographies and moods. The group was founded in 2016 by Sicilian jazz guitarist Fabrizio Brusca and Sylvia, who write the band’s music, with pianist Maria Chiara Argirò and bassist Thodoris Ziarkas among its distinct voices.

Formed as a response to the erratic and all-consuming city of London, White Flower invites its audiences to step away from urban life, attend to intimate sound and be drawn into dream-like sonorities. Focusing on stillness and silence while exploring discomfort and contradiction, the music draws on folk traditions through the lens of contemporary classical, improvisation and sound art.
